Habakkuk 1:7
They are terrible and dreadful; Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. NKJV

So today, God now begins His five verse description of His sword of national judgment.

Here is a nation who measures themselves by themselves. Here is a nation whose standards and laws proceed from their own pragmatic and self serving decisions. True justice and right judgment, however, come only from the law of the Lord.

The continuing eradication of the Ten Commandments presence from any culture will ultimately lead to the utter selfishness of an all consuming hedonistic and homosexual madness, (Genesis 18:19,20). I say ultimately, because there are many stages to this self consuming cancer. So, for now, in the case of the Chaldeans, such national self judgment has led to dignity of self elevation that can only be measured by a few millimeters, you know, just like you would see the rising of a puss bound scab standing raised adn craggy just above the skin of an infected pauper, even a poor and pitiful, diseased ridden leper. So is the self made dignity of any nation which has rejected the law of the Lord and whose judgment and justice now proceed totally from themselves. Such a leprous legion may have their bright flag unfurled and all a fluttering; yes, their chest may be puffed out and be decked full of rainbow colored medals, but God calls such a nations self made dignity leprous, scabby, disgusting and unclean in His sight.

The rejection of God’s laws always eventually leads to cultural pragmatism that screams through the streets of time like a doped up druggy on an overdose of ‘speed’. Such are such unholy nations who make their laws up as they go along to justify and further enable their own self consuming ways. When such a nation marches forth to war, they are fearfully frightful, yes, they cause the observer, the source of their current consuming, to cringe and hide in heart collapsing fear. Why is this? Because nations which make up their own laws, can justify genocide and murder millions to achieve their ends. Such nations can put a brutal boot up anyone’s ass to move them along, kick them out of the way and grind them into the ground.

The last 100 years of European history has not seen the coming and going of many wars, even two world wars, but rather, has experienced the nation consuming ravages of many battles in but one major war: the war to in any and in every way , eventually overturn the law of God and even eradicate it from the earth to make way from one human world government and one ultimate anti-God ruler. Now, even today, the nations of the world are thoroughly rejecting the law of the Lord and make no mistake about it, those of us who carry it in our hearts and live it in our lives, will be silenced by them, shut up, eradicated. Nations without God, show no grace or mercy toward those who know the Lord and His law.

Look America, piece by piece, from education, legislation, politic and public place, your Judeo-Christian foundation stones are being now most hastily removed.

Look Great Britain, your empire and Nation is left to you foundationless and desolate.

Look Europe, the past pride of your nations are being ground into a powder keg of mixed populations whilst all your skylines are full of banks and minarets and the aroma of the late evening air is full of foreboding even while the pilfering politicians all talk of peace and bathe in plenty.

Pray: -  “Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, Lord, and grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the Lord will speak, f or He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land. (Psalms 85:4-9)

Of Worms and Watchwords

Yesterday we looked at the watchwords of the Warriors of God; them being, “Strength and Courage.” Large shields are these magnificent words, sharp swords even strong steeds, iron gates, fearsome friends that are always marching onwards together, the valiant vanguard of any advance. Yet just as the largest and strongest of athletes can be felled by a mere microbe and left sweating and moaning in a gibbering heap, so these two great words, strength and courage, can in a New York minute, have their foundations eaten away by a small and little, wriggly worm. Such eating away, will double us up with unexpected pain and like the burst and dissipated waters from premature twins, our now cringing cowardice will first give birth to weakness and then to death. The worm I speak of is FEAR. Once fear takes root friends: kingdoms fall! Selah.

In my experience and observation, the introduction of this worm of fear is one of the chief weapons in the armoury of the enemy. Like most vile and viral agents, it needs to a have good breeding ground, it needs to have the right climate to multiply its madness. That climate is DOUBT. Doubting the faithfulness of God; doubting the good intentions of God; doubting the capacities of God, doubting especially the goodness of God. “He’s deserted me. Did I really hear Him? Maybe He won’t help me. Maybe He can’t help me? Maybe He’s against me? I wonder if He wants to harm me really?”

DOUBT IS ALWAYS the precursor to fear. So may I suggest that to remove and kill the worms of fear, we need first to remove the climate of doubt. How then does the damp despair of doubt begin to clothe the mountain tops of strong courageous hearts and envelope them like cold thick fog? May I suggest that three things give rise to this deadly climate.

The first is, Discouragement. Fighting of any kind has its setbacks. A ‘right hook’ from the enemy may violently turn your head and for a moment, rock your world. When this happens, suck it up, cover up, get your breath back, bob, weave, stick your left out, then get back in there, this time watching out for that which hurt you so much the last time. So first of all, DO NOT LET HARD BLOWS DISCOURAGE YOU.

Secondly, LACK OF LISTENING. God always gives instructions before the battle. Always! Listen to this and follow closely. Note as well that in conflict, God will always provide times of rest, so when you get back to your corner, listen. Receive the refreshing water, the cool wind of the flapping towel, the grease and the fixings, but whatever you do, listen and listen hard. If we think we are not hearing from our Master, our trainer, our coach, then we are in deep distress. The feeling of seeming desertion and being totally alone will shrink and shrivel our hearts to the size of old walnuts. Secondly then, be sure to listen to God.

Lastly, keep looking in the right place. Only one corner out of four holds the eyes of encouragement and the instruction for victory that you require. Look to that corner, again and again and again. Don’t get disorientated, don’t get misled, and above all, when in need of encouragement, direction and help, keep looking to God’s corner.

Discouragement, lack of listening and misdirected gazing, will all cloud your sky, will set your sun and will bring down the cold fog of doubt in double quick time. Such cold isolation will breed the worms of fear and those eaten by them, will wriggle like them, convulsing on the Devil’s dire and dirty hook, their strength and courage, stripped and strained away their face now all yellow with cowardice. Today then oh maggoty eaten friend, get off the hook, get up, get on, listen intently and this time, look in the right direction.

Listen: - …. “O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!” Daniel 10:18-19

Pray: - Lord, Revive me. Shine bright in my sky, burn away the fog of doubt, set me on my feet, strengthen me and help me today O my God, my strength and my redeemer. Teach me to be more than a conqueror through Him who loved me and gave Himself for me. Amen.

Isaiah 13:6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

During our life together, my wife and I have spent some time living in Florida, ‘The Sunshine State’, and for the best part, dodged a number of nasty names. Thankfully, the ‘eye walls’ of Frances, Ivan, Jeanne, Katrina and Rita all passed us by stealing only one side of the house in which we lived. Many in those times, had not been so fortunate.

Before powerful Hurricanes make landfall, the local authorities have the power to issue mandatory evacuation notices on areas close to the coast, where they fear the winds and associated tidal surge pose a serious threat to human life. Mandatory, does not mean what you think though as people can in fact choose to stay! In cases like this it is reported that the local authorities, police, national guard etc, simply visit the people staying behind, to get from them the names of their next of kin. Now imagine that conversation!

“So despite the warnings and impending disaster, you have decided to stay then?”
“Yup!”
“Well, we won't be here and we cannot provide you with any further help. You are on your own. Give us the name of your next of kin so we can inform them of your unnecessary demise!”

It's quite a sobering thing to have someone shake their head and ask you for the names of your nearest and dearest to so inform them of your impending death! It would certainly make me think about staying in the path of perilous and pernicious storms. Indeed, the safe and the sane would regard me as a foolhardy idiot to remain in such a condition, but oh my friends, hasn't the blindness and deafness and all the other gross insensibilities of sin made fool hardy idiots of all of us, even of the whole wide world? For judgment is quickly coming upon us and yet, we choose to remain in its terrible path.

Our verse today proclaims to us on two levels.

First, Isaiah speaks to his contemporaries about the coming judgment from God’s hand in that the rising world empire would like a flood, overtake them and wash them away. If you read the whole passage you cannot escape the horror of what God Himself is about to do to His own people.

As well as this, as in most prophetic discourse, there is also a secondary proclamation which in this case is an allusion to the Final Judgment: A coming day of unspeakable destruction and devastation. Jesus in anger, when He saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” Matt 3:7-8 Yes indeed, it’s been a long time coming but coming it is! God allows us to run on a while in our sin but He will cut us down.

Yes, God is Holy and needs to be respectfully 'feared'. However, God is also so very, very scary, especially when He's on the rampage and I tell you, we had best be scared, we had best be frightened, we had best be fearful of Him in this cringing and trembling way. Don't try and scale this horror down friends, don't try and dress God up in a white beard and a red suit, don't create an idol of your own nice 'enlightened' thinking about the Lord Most High! In the real sense of the phrase, God is awful! Did you hear that? God is awful and says and does awful things.

Like trembling Rahab of old, who knew of the coming destruction of her land and her people, we need to follow this wise prostitutes example and get our 'Next Of Kin' into the redeemed house of shame, that now flies the crimson stained banner from the but one waiting window in the falling walls of this old and smelly Jericho. It is not a new message that should be on the lips of the church but it is a fearful and forgotten one that we should at the last, begin to proclaim again.

A day is coming when God shall judge the living and the dead. Inform your N.O.K. to flee from the W.T.C.

Listen:- ….Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:8b-10

Pray:- Lord, no angry, self righteous, mad, malicious and masochistic prophet is needed to spread this message of the fearful Wrath To Come. But rather, please send Your weeping Jeremiahs into the world once more, whilst there is still time O God. In Jesus name we ask it, amen.

Nahum 1:14 The Lord has given a command concerning you: "Your name shall be perpetuated no longer. Out of the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the molded image. I will dig your grave, For you are vile." NKJV.

The prophet Jonah had previously been mightily, if not reluctantly, used by God to preach repentance and grace to that great city of Ninevah. The Ninevite’s response to Jonah’s reluctant proclamations then had been to repent and to accept God’s goodness and thus, God’s falling feet of judgement pounding their way toward them, had then happily been turned away. Now however, the prophet Nahum in effect says that, “Now Ninevah shall fall!” God is returning to Ninevah once more and this time, He has a shovel in His hand and the word on His very angry lips is “I’m gonna bury you!” What on earth had happened here?

Do remember that a peoples past repentance does not guarantee a present grace. Repentance must be continually lived in for mercy to ever flow. There is a lesson here for individuals and for nations, for the lions of the earth and their blood-lines, can always be finally done away with. For good! For when God brings His shovel and digs for the much warned yet unrepentant a pit, then the earth He heaps upon them shall cover them forever and the wind will blow away every remnant of their once proud existence. For example, I remember when all my maps of the world at school were mostly covered with pink, indicating the breadth, depth and spread of the once great British Empire. Selah.

There are two marked contrasts about God presented to us in this book of Nahum and the fact that God is the God of the whole earth and that all nations are therefore accountable to both Him and His laws is the basis of this reactive contrast.

First if we as nations obey God and seek to follow Him and honour Him then this attitude and action will assure for the obedient nation concerned, both peace and prosperity; on the other hand, disobedience to His purpose and disregard of His rule and laws, will bring catastrophe to that nation and on its heals a most terrible judgement. Do you see the reactive contrast? To the nation seeking to obey Him, God is a rock and a refuge, a God of goodness carrying a basket of goodies. However, to the nation that disobeys Him and in the so doing “does the dirty” on those seeking to follow Him, then He a jealous avenger, clothed from top to tail in the black suit of the undertaker, striding angrily across the mountains of doom, carrying a shovel across His judgemental shoulders. This is a terrible but simple picture and calls forth the choice of both individual and national obedience or disobedience, of life or death, even from every generation that sees it!

I look at our falling nations of the West, least not this isle of mine, and believe we are in the time of the prophet Nahum, but Oh my God! I long for the time of Jonah the prophet to come again once more and even now I still sniff the air in prayerful hope, to try and smell the vomit of the whale upon our darkened streets once more and see a stomach acid stained white prophet rise from the puked up mess and preach repentance to us once again. Though all our fishing grounds are empty, maybe God has a few of His own great fish still hidden in His deeps? Maybe these will carry some reluctant prophets to come to these beleaguered shores once more and preach righteousness, sin, coming judgement and repentance in Jesus to us again. I hope so. I pray so. Maybe some of you should do so.

A Day Of Silence

I have been to Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church and to the King Center located nearby. Here homage is made to the man and to the actions of one of America’s best known citizens, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was assassinated in Memphis, today in 1968. King, a man with feet of clay, was never the less, a brave man, a man of great passion and a man of great courage, probably doing more for the destruction of atrocious racial laws and advancing the cause of Civil Rights than anyone else in America either before or since. I speak of course, merely as a little white man from Derbyshire.

It is of no surprise that the King’s Center lists Racism as one of the Triple Evils of vicious and cyclical violence. Interestingly though, underneath the general heading of Racism they list ‘Homophobia’ along with other actions, similar they say to racism, as a subset of one of the Triple Evils, so much so, that if the explanatory paragraph for racism has the word homophobia ‘understood’ into it, it just might read as follows, "Homophobia is a philosophy based on a contempt for life. It is the arrogant assertion that male and female are the centers of value and object of devotion, before which Gays and Lesbians, Bi-and Transexual persons, must kneel in submission. It is the absurd dogma that male and female gender practices and roles, are responsible for all the progress of history and alone can assure the progress of the future. Homophobia is total estrangement. It separates not only bodies, but minds and spirits. Inevitably it descends to inflicting spiritual and physical homicide upon the out-group."

Later this month, school children will be encouraged to engage in a day of silence in schools to highlight bullying and harassment against these so called alternative lifestyles. Hundreds of thousands are expected to participate and the number is growing. In the last four weeks, where I have first seen a woman, having previously undergone gender reassignment surgery yet electing to keep her reproductive organs, now, despite looking like a spotty, ugly, hairy-chinned geezer, pose naked, being full and fat with pregnancy and secondly seen a glove puppet being investigated by the Northamptonshire Police Hate crimes unit for a remark that ‘gypsies sold heather and clothes pegs,’ I can only say that the time is shortly coming when you shall visit me in prison! (By the way, my wife has gypsy blood running through her beautiful veins and when I was kid, gypsies did come to our door selling heather and clothes pegs, which my mother always bought, because she was frightened of being cursed by them! A different world maybe but factual never the less).

Darkness is very clever, in that to survive, no, even to proliferate itself, it will hitch its wagon to any good thing and then chameleon like, will try and cloth itself with goodness, affability and acceptability. God might be mocked in this respect but He is not deceived and though we humans even go contrary to nature and all creation, which in itself always forces that separation between night and day, darkness and light, sinfulness and holiness, God himself will step in soon to sort out these crimes against nature. Yes, what we see is contrary to nature and the universe itself will eventually eject it from its bowels, never mind the soon and coming intervention from a very angry God. Meanwhile, encouraged by the misleading mass media and marching folk touched at some point with all the madness of these abominations, the percentage of people practicing these sins increases every year. The big question for praying and loving Christians is this, how should we then live among them, with them? For them?

Firstly may I say that we need to note that in the Bible, light never accommodates the darkness. It is always separate from it. So then Christian, separate yourselves from such darkness.

Secondly, we must remember that we have been delivered from such darkness and indeed, many of us are still in that daily process of deliverance. Yes, such were some of us, but we have been washed and we have been made clean, no longer to live in these sinful ways. So don’t judge yourselves better! But rather forgiven, washed and delivered. So then Christian, separate yourselves from such darkness.

Lastly, I must tell you to prepare yourselves, for darkness is an active force which will always seek to extinguish the light. It does this, because it cannot stand to be seen for what it truly is. Evil. Evil never comes to the light but always tries to extinguish it. If you want to test the truth of this statement, then let your true light shine before these folks and see what happens. Never the less, our response to these things is in the truth trident of Proclamation, Separation and Reclamation. We must proclaim the truth of the Scriptures. We must then be a people of separation, as we cannot afford to be found to be associated with such sins that are bringing calamity upon our nations. We must however at all costs, through the power of the Gospel and repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, offer the Divine possibility of both redemption and reclamation from these most pernicious evils. I tell you now though, not many people want such redemption.

Darkness will always seek the silence of such Proclamation, Separation and Reclamation. Yes, darkness will always seek to choke the light, even if it is with a bullet through the throat.

Listen: - The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said,"Let there be light"; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. Genesis 1:2-5 NKJV.

Pray:- Lord, as the earth once again moves towards a formless, dark and swirling void, once more O Lord, cry ‘Let their be light!” Then O Lord, may the darkness flee away and Your glory, Your grace and Your truth be clearly seen. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

1 Samuel 15:3 Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'


In the late evening of February 13th 1945, Lothar Metzger was covered with wet blankets by his mother as they fled their burning home for more adequate shelter. Thousands of tons of incendiary bombs filled with early versions of Napalm, had superheated the air to over 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, sucking oxygen out of the lungs of miserably frightened people huddled in their urine soaked shelters beneath the shaking ground. Above their praying heads, the fantastic fire was sucking in the screaming and desperately fleeing, broken and bleeding refugees, back into the fiery red and raging inferno, where the fierceness of the fire, ate them all alive. Later, after the metallic deluge, up top, in the hot grey morning, the smell of petroleum and human ‘pork cracklin’ filled the air and lingered around the burnt and broken, shrunken and naked corpses of what a few hours before, were mothers, brothers and singing sisters.

The Bombing of Dresden, its reasons and repercussions, are just one example of how ‘Total Warfare’ once purposefully and justifiably executed, is later, brought into serious dispute. Even Churchill, who himself had once been a wholehearted supporter of operation 'Thunderclap', made comments to the British Chiefs of Staff saying that “the destruction of Dresden remains a serious query against the conduct of Allied bombing.”

It would appear that not only the scarred and the scared, but the humane and the sane, must examine the subject of ‘Total Warfare’ in the context of fried flesh, melted eyes, dismembered children, burning hair, poisoned earth, and the horror and support of ongoing and monstrous fetal abnormality.

Yes, when ‘Total War’ in the 21st Century shall give birth to horrors for generations to come, it ceases to be a subject to be examined from afar by the Ivory-towered theologian and the aged hairy historian, but must be vivisected and viewed and undeniably understood by us common folk, as those who stare with fear into the presently locked confines of the caged and all consuming nuclear cannibalism of the horrible Hannibal Lecter of modern total warfare. For at present, he is fumbling with the Middle Eastern key which he now possesses, in attempt to unleash himself and his hunger upon a scared and watching crowd! Only when we partake of this full frontal fear, will we then be armed and ready to take a good look at the monster of ‘Total War.’

Are you frightened yet? I hope so, for that is the way we must approach the plain reading of today’s text. This text leads us to but one conclusion and that is, that God Himself engages in ‘Total Warfare.’ He is a God who undeniably and frighteningly calls nations to account.

‘Bomber’ Harris, that now much maligned implementer of the United Kingdoms former War Cabinet policies, relating to the massive area bombing campaigns in the ‘Total War’ of WW11, is remarked as saying “The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a dozen other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.”

“They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.” What a terrifying statement! Never the less we too must be careful to recognize the vengeful and judging God of ‘Total Warfare’, so righteously, so clearly and frighteningly portrayed in the Scriptures. We too need to tread carefully in sowing the wind, lest we follow in the footsteps of other nations and empires before us and reap the whirlwind of the most righteous God, bent on vengeance and treading down the clouds, on a most terrible rampage!

Our actions have elected ‘Blood and Gore’ as President and Vice President of our nation. They may very soon to take up their office.

Listen: - Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. Psalm 2:12

Pray: Lord, let us not be deceived, for surely we know that Your judgments are for a time prepared and their delay and the sunshine of this day, does not dismiss their soon arrival. O Lord have mercy upon us, in Jesus name we pray, amen.

Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Of Bursting Bags and Guilt by Association

In our text for tonight there is most definitely I think, a spirit of Pharisaism that Jesus is judging here. He is not happy!

Most frighteningly though is the fact that Jesus joins the Pharisees of His day to a spiritual genealogy of both judgement and persecution. The association is so complete in His eyes that He calls them the murderers of prophets from another age and of Zecheriah in particular. Physically of course they were not even born then but spiritually, their present spiritual DNA was so rooted and connected with what happened way back then, that Jesus condemns them for those murderous actions expressed spiritually in the past through the physical actions of others! Judgement, the severest and most terrible of kinds came upon them, that present and living brood of vipers, because they were so intrinsically connected with that wriggling serpent, who had swished his tail in murderous assault throughout the generations. There is most definitely I think, a spirit of Pharisaism that Jesus is judging here. He is not happy!

Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown, commenting on that particular generation says “As it was only in the last generation of them that "the iniquity of the Amorites was full" (Genesis 15:16), and then the abominations of ages were at once completely and awfully avenged, so the iniquity of Israel was allowed to accumulate from age to age until in that generation it came to the full, and the whole collected vengeance of Heaven broke at once over its devoted head. In the first French Revolution the same awful principle was exemplified, and Christendom has not done with it yet."

There is a Laodicean laziness among us at the end of this age, a blind quietness born of full bellies, born of an attitude of sin and let sin, born of the seeming inactivity and ignoring of Almighty God. For those that listen however, time runs in its fullness to the top of the container of judgment. The sound of filling bags is coming to an end and I fear the whole boiling water pot is about to fall off the stove and onto the pink and bared flesh of all our looking children, those pale and poor young youths who have been sold a yapping puppy of a faith. Those of us still in the kitchen have but very little time to call these goggle-eyed singing goons back to the God of the Bible, lest they and their milksop teachers both, have red hot bags of 'skubalastic' judgement burst over their guilty by association little heads.

Listen: - Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, "Thus says God:'Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the Lord, He also has forsaken you.'" So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord. Pray:- Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, Lord, and grant us Your salvation. Psalms 85:4-7 NKJV
