Dream Word – OBEY

Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” NKJV

Today in 1787, the Supreme Law of the United States of America was adopted in its original form. This now most famous of documents begins with a most stirring pre-amble “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.…” Thus indicating that this writing came not from any King, Emperor, Potentate, or any other authority, but from “We the people..” How wonderful.

This original Constitution was both later changed and amended. One of these amendments, amendment thirteen, though appearing in some earlier transcripts of the Constitution appears to be ‘missing’ in the constitution of the present. The so-called ‘missing’ thirteenth amendment, or ‘Titles of Nobility Amendment’ (TONA), which was proposed by the 11th Congress on May 1, 1810, would have ended the citizenship of any American who accepted “Any Title of Nobility or Honour” from any foreign power. Without going into the whys and the wherefores and the usual American conspiratorial ménage of why it was never ratified, may I say that I like the idea!

Indeed, I think this amendment should be ratified for it shows that no cleaving can occur without a leaving. Did you get that? Whatever might take away your stickiness, your glue-likeness, get rid of it. Do not let anything come between that which you pledged an allegiance to. Why? Well the answer is easy, you cannot serve two masters!

Mammon is simply a Greek transliteration of an Aramaic word referring to ‘riches in general.’ So our text tonight holds within it, the seeds of the Christian TONA Amendment. Jesus says, “You cannot serve two masters.” If money has put any title of Nobility or Honour upon you, (Jesus is brutal about this next bit) then GET RID OF IT! Christ shall have no split allegiences.
Luke 14:33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. NKJV

What can we do in light of these intransigent statements from the lips of Jesus? Well, how about this :-
“We the People of God, in Order to form a more perfect Union with Him, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty which is in Christ Jesus to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Serving of our Master”.
Article 1- Jesus has the power to command whatever HE wills in our life.
Article 2-HE can do this because HE has complete and undisputed Executive power and authority in HIS kingdom of which we are part.
Article 3–HE is the judge of all things and of HIS church in particular.
Article 4– There is no limit to HIS power, neither is their limit in execution of HIS power.
Article 5–There are no amemdments to HIS consititution because everything in HIM is ratified as both YES AND LET IT BE DONE.
Article 6– ALL power is HIS. ALL glory is HIS. All monies are HIS. All money not used in HIS service, whether rightly or wrongly gained, is tainted money. For HIS followers, it is tainted with the intent of both theft and misuse.
Article 7- Like it or not, this constitution is in effect. It has already been ratified. Get on with it.

Maybe we need that TONA Amendement though? How about you tonight, do you need it? Are your allegiences split?

Pray: - Lord, I yield to You, both my wallet and my bank account. I herby this day, deny all honours and all titles that Mammon has laid upon me and pledge allegiance to Your bloody flag and to the constitution of Your eternal kingdom. Amen.
