Jesus IS The Mud!

This morning in 2008, 300 feet below the town of Crozet in France, the 27km circular tunnels of the Large Hadron Collider, powered up and began to collide particles at just below the speed of light, smashing them together in an attempt to reproduce the residual energy present at what many consider to be the fact of the BIG BANG, when all of this mass of this present Cosmos was produced from an infinitely small amount of matter, which in effect, had no dimensions at all. Indeed, with respect to the space time somethings in which we exist, its dimensions were in fact, nothing! It’s an interesting theory.

Joel Achenbach, writing for National Geographic produced a most amazing article on this same subject. Commenting on the 'Billions of Dollars' in money both spent and continuing to be spent on the project, he remarked “The exact number (in dollars spent) is elusive, the science will be precise, but the accounting apparently follows the Uncertainty Principle.” So just why has humanity spent such vast amounts on this project? For sure, it is because we have a need to understand our environs.Unlike the animal, insect and plant kingdoms of our world, we humans have a real need to arrive at a complete cosmological prioperception of our universe. In other words, we need to know just why and where we are in space and time and to know that, we must first know what space and time is. The questions of ‘Just what is this place in which we live and why am I here?’ Are the ever haunting questions of the human heart, which presently now ever rush to find an answer from the great Doctor Wizards who practice in the dark arts of particle physics. No, we humans are not just searching for technological advantage in military and commercial terms, not just searching for commercial prosperity in a new wave of advanced consumer goods, no, we are searching for answers to the meaning of life!

The 2008 almost metaphysical search in the CERN, (The European Organization of Nuclear Research) is not in the mud, but rather, is FOR the mud! Theoretical physicist John Ellis, gives a picture of their field of search when he remarks that different fundamental particles, “Are like a crowd of people running through mud. Some particles, like quarks, have big boots that get covered with lots of mud; others, like electrons, have little shoes that barely gather any mud at all. Photons don't wear shoes—they just glide over the top of the mud without picking any up. And the Higgs field is the mud.” Yes, that is what they are looking for, ‘The Higgs Field,’ which can be observed by the presence of the ‘Higgs Boson,’ or ‘The Higgs Particle,’ whose propositional existence was put forward by Peter Higgs more than 40 years ago! Again, Joel Achenbach elucidates with such clarity about this field of mud when he comments that: “Most physicists believe that there must be a Higgs field that pervades all space and that the Higgs particle, would be the carrier of the field and would interact with other particles, sort of the way a Jedi knight in Star Wars is the carrier of the ‘force.’ The Higgs is a crucial part of the standard model of particle physics—but no one's ever found it.” It was Nobel Prize in Physics winner, ‘Leon Lederman’ who dubbed this particular particle, ‘The God Particle!’ The mud that holds everything together.

May I suggest tonight that Theoretical Physicists are searching in a vast Library of lexicons or better still, in an enormous dictionary of words, and are in particular searching for that one key word, that single word which holds everything together, gives cohesiveness, symmetry, meaning and magnificence to the very Cosmos in which we live. May I say that the power of that same spoken word is so connected with the word itself and so connected with the speaker, that that the expressive power, the word and the speaker, are in effect all one. These Physicists, on their own religious terms are searching for what is to them an unknown God, but who is to us Christians, the known and most revealed, Christ the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. So, may I now say with great respect, that Jesus is in fact the mud which holds everything together!
