Dream Word – COURAGE
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. NKJV
The Land of 'Might’s and Maybe’s.’
There is commercial on television at the moment trying to invoke all the simple, exciting, colourful, innocent and happy thoughts of early childhood. Its tag line is, “When you were a child, what did you dream of?” I like that.
Apart from the nightmares of course, yes, apart from the black monsters underneath my dark and dusty bed, or those scaly creatures hid inside the tall brown, creaking wardrobe, that coat hanger, clinking den of secret malevolence which stood sentinel like, patiently waiting for my closed eyes, before creaking open its walnut doors and letting the evil slip silently into my room and step with secret stealth, knife outstretched, towards my quaking bed, yes, apart from the nightmares, my own personal dreams were always just sunny delight! Wait a minute, isn’t that another commercial?
I wonder what land of delight or land of trouble might, like the dentist’s gas, slip you into either Purgatory or Elysium this dream filled night? Who knows? However, one nightmare land I now refuse to enter, both in my waking thoughts and in my sleeping dreams is ‘The Land of Might’s and Maybe’s.’ This land for me and I believe for most folks, is fraught with heart palpitating uncertainty and decked with dripping fear. Fear of judgment, fear of regret, fear of hurt, fear of dishonour, fear of waste and fear of life- shattering, unrecoverable loss! It’s a nasty land where peace and comfort, where satisfaction and the supposition of eternal wonderment just cannot live, yes, they cannot even begin to grow their gentle roots into that brittle dry ground, whose soil is never bound together by the always wet and always dripping goodness of God Most High! I tell you tonight, I shall never again enter the gates of ‘The Land of Might’s and Maybe’s’ and if you might wish to know just how to avoid the bumpy trips and the fearful bends of the winding roads and the blind corners of that sad and sorry place, then rejoice, for I shall tell you!
Avoiding entrance into ‘The Land of Might’s and Maybe’s,’ is simple really! You must always act, from what you know. What you know in the Word of God and what you know of the goodness of God which echoes clearly in your heart. Now let me tell you tonight, you might never be assured of the outcome of your choices, that is, the assurance of whether the outcome of your choices will move you towards your God-desired goal. Life isn’t like that anyways! You line up your ducks and you take your best shot! That’s really as good as it gets. Only God knows what will happen. There are no guarantees in life, except the eternal fact that God is good. Now friends, be assured that this fact, when acted on in faith, locks the gates to the confederate lands of ‘What if’s, and of Might’s and of Maybe’s.’ We need to be thankful for that, for as soon as we enter these dark lands of our doubting dreams, we find them to be full of man-made Adams, all eight feet tall, with yellow, watery eyes, translucent skin, black pupils and hair and lips made from putrefying corpse material, each one striking a paralyzing fear into our fearful eyes. No, this cold land of ‘Might’s and Maybe’s’ is not for the Christian.
Christian. Victor. Do not make monsters to populate your own land of ‘Might’s and Maybe’s!’ Be strong, be a man, be decisive! Do what you know to be right in the Word of God and do what you know to be right in your heart. Just do it and leave the results with the good hand of your good God. This is pleasing to Him and who knows, it just might put some hairs on your chest!
Oh, and one final word. If you are going to establish your heart, your intentions, and your desires, in the mouth of two or three witnesses, then make sure you get a prial of stout-hearted Christians! Warriors with hair on their chest, scars on their arms and some muscle in their bicep. Don’t even go near any momma’s boys ‘cause we all know what they will say! “Stay home, stay warm, stay nice and always wear clean underwear.” No, don’t even go there! Commit yourself tonight to action and then dream of the good consequence which shall come from the good hand of our good God. No 'might's', no 'maybe's'.
Listen: - Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:14-18 NKJV
Pray: Lord, please deliver me from these crippling and monstrous fears, these worm-like 'what if’s', these debilitating 'mights' and these crippling 'maybe's'. Allow me to rejoice in Your goodness when even hesitantly doing what I know to be right, in Jesus name I pray, amen.
