Key Word:- FIGHT

Title:- How To Debate With The Devil

Isaiah 36:21 But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, “Do not answer him."

The siege of Jerusalem was no laughing matter. Though a city could hold out for a long time against even the staunchest attackers, a long siege would inevitably lead to starvation and sickness, coupled with all its associated evils, even to cannibalism.
In those days the fall of a city after such long sieges did not lend itself to civility. The conquerors could be brutal. It was therefore seemingly in the interests of all parties, for the city of Jerusalem to surrender at a very early stage. Sennacherib could not blow the walls of Jerusalem down, so now, he would mock them down, shock them down and lie them down, by melting the strong hearts that held them up.

It is Sennacherib’s chief officer in the field that went to speak to the wobbling warriors on the walls. He knew how to speak their language, was erudite, clever, insolent, arrogant, haughty and lying. His chief purpose was to achieve an early surrender by starting such a fire of fear in the hearts of his hearers, that the crackle of it would burst from their lips upon Hezekiah the king and force him to open the gates and so get the sucker to succumb. King Hezekiah may have been many things, but in this incident, he was wise. If he couldn’t stop his enemy arriving, if he couldn’t stop his enemy speaking; if he couldn’t stop his people listening; well, he could certainly stop them replying.

Here then are five things for you to remember today. Take your right hand and place these rings of knowledge on each finger and your thumb.

Firstly then, learn that the devil is immensely clever. He knows how to speak to you, when and where. How will you know it’s him speaking? Well a testimony to his talking, is the quivering fear you feel in your heart as you seek to obey the Lord.

Secondly, note that the devil always takes some truthful facts to try and hide his massive lies. This has worked well for him for thousands of years. Wise up dear friend. If it isn’t the whole truth you are hearing, then it’s probably the devil that’s doing all the talking.

Thirdly, if at all possible, don’t give the devil an audience, don’t give him opportunity to tell you his terms, don’t let him in and don’t let him speak. Do not give him permission to speak to you. Do not make yourself available to him.

Fourthly, if the devil surprises you in his arrival, do not be polite. Don’t listen. Turn your back on him. Avert your gaze. Fill your ears with better sounds, fill your mind with Scriptural truth.

Lastly of course. DON’T SPEAK TO THE DEVIL. Yes, this is how you debate with the devil. YOU DON’T! Dear friend, never ever enter into conversation with the devil. Don’t debate, don’t justify, don’t speak.

The presence of quivering fear is a sign of the enemies voice, which will be evidenced with a little truth and a lot of lies, so don’t give him an audience, don’t be polite, don’t listen and do not reply. Got it? The only words that you should speak, if any, are those given to you by the Lord your God. The Lord knows where the devil lives. God’s got his number, God knows what’s going on. So let God speak. Got it? Good!

Listen:- “But I know your dwelling place, Your going out and your coming in, And your rage against Me. Because your rage against Me and your tumult Have come up to My ears, Therefore I will put My hook in your nose And My bridle in your lips, And I will turn you back By the way which you came.” Isaiah 37:28-29

Pray: - Jesus, put a guard on my lips, put Your sword in my hands, and in hearing of the devil's monstrous lies and endemic fear, turn me again to the crystal clear, voice of Your truth, and with the peace of God which passes all understanding, keep my heart and keep my mind. Amen.
