Dream Word – DANGER
Proverbs 6:22 When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. NKJV
Of Knickers, Pants & Pantomimes
The Scriptures are very clear concerning the blind stupidity of men, especially when it comes to their desire for sex. Our text for tonight is couched in the context of a warning against the results of adultery. The wise sayings of the Book of Proverbs touch on this particular subject not a few times and paint in words that can only be described as a clear but metaphorical caricature, the whole process of dissatisfaction, illicit desire, enticement, fulfilment, change, realization, loss and regret, and they paint it in pantomimic proportion! Yes, the warning passages against adultery call the reader into participation, into shouting and cheering, weeping and wailing, booing and hissing against the characters. Let’s have a quick look.
The Wife. Quiet, tired, small, a little worn, a little worn out even. Busy with kids, managing the household, her brow marked by time and worry, her thighs and belly stretch-marked by their offspring. What she wants most at night is sleep.
The Seductress. Buxom, beautiful, a honey red-lipped, pouting, smooth operator, sashaying her “Come and see me sometime” invitation everywhere she goes. Exciting, inviting, caressing you with her eyes, undressing herself before you. What she wants most at night is sex.
The young man, or the older husband. ‘Oddie’ like in the display of his hung-out tongue and hung-out mind. Led by his loins, blinded by his throbbing desire, sucked into the darkness of his fantasies, ready to rock and roll and play roulette with the ‘lady in red’; longing for Las Vegas and the chance to play, forgetting the one great truth, that the house always wins in the end. What he wants most at night is to play and be played upon. He is an idiot of infinite proportion. A destroyer of his own household and happiness.
The Pantomime plays itself out in the book of Proverbs not so much with the action between the sheets but with the reaction of the young man or the older husband when they eventually wake from their stupor, thirsty, naked, and tied to a cactus in the desert, with no credit left on their plastic card and no way home anways!
The warnings against adultery are Pantomimic in proportion because God paints them in the largest of letters that they might be seen over the big boil of blind stupidity that often grows between men’s eyes. It needs to be seen and for those that do see it, the Book of Proverbs is layered and littered with strips of hazard tape all shouting out one little phrase regarding the seductions of adultery, saying very simply, “Don’t go there stupid!”
The take home of our text for tonight is that each day, we need to be lead, kept and spoken to. We need to be kept safe, we need to be kept from sexually destroying ourselves. It is the Word of God and His great commandments that will keep us from this, and quite specifically, His great commandments delivered from the mouth of your mother! The Bible is fantastically brilliant in that it encourages the replacement of the pictures of buxom beauties in the minds of the tempted man with pictures of his mom! Isn't that just hilarious or what? Yet, it is also so thoroughly, thoroughly practical! "Guys whenever you’re thinking about that kind of stuff," says God, "Think about your mother and remember what she told you. Think about her words, listen to her loving scolding’s and warnings, feel her slapping hand up the side of your head, and the back of your legs, hold her words in your heart, let them be a protective amulet hanging round your neck against this destructive power of seduction, for 'my son,' says your mum, 'the product of her seduction and your stupidity is disaster of every kind. WAKE UP! RUN AWAY!'"
For sure, we need some straight talking Godly mothers to rise up in our midst to imbibe their children with Godly instruction. Let us all buy a ticket tonight then, and get involved in the Pantomime of the Book of Proverbs. Let us remember our mothers and their warnings and let us mark out our path with the black and yellow, bumble bee warning hazard tape of ‘The Pantomimic Caricatures of The Wonderful Word of God.’ Look, listen and learn.
Listen: - O My son, keep your father's command, and do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart;Tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light;Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, To keep you from the evil woman,From the flattering tongue of a seductress. Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids. For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared? So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent. Proverbs 6:20-29 NKJV
Pray:- Lord, help me to fall in love with instruction, yes, help to make the best of friends with correction and to listen to the wise voice of my mother and the strong command of my father, that I might be delivered from total ruin. So grant me my own cistern with running water, a well with a bucket, an enraptured fountain, valleys of invitation and the soft sided hills of a loving spouse, in Jesus name I pray, amen!
