Title:- Is There a Roof on Your Toilet?
Matthew 13:3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying:
I love words. I love how you can paint vast vistas with singing sentences; how you can marry majesty and misery with the same breath and then measure a man's worth by it. Yes, I love how you can tear tears from faces, and stretch cheeks wide in smiles, with just a few choice words. Here is one of the best examples of a wordsmith pulling your cheeks wide with beautiful words; Les Dawson, British Comedian 1934-1993 : -
“I just happened to glance at the night sky
And I marvelled at the millions of stars
Glistening like pieces of quick silver
Thrown carelessly on to black velvet.
In awe I watched the waxen moon
Rise like an amber chariot
Across the zenith of the heavens
Towards the ebb and void of infinite space
Between the tethered bunks of Jupiter and Mars
Hanging forever festooned in their odd little majesty
And as I looked at this, I thought
I must put a roof on this lavatory”
Les leads you in you see, and then he gets you! Ha!
Our dear Jesus, does just the same.
Jesus has such a way with words. They are all hooks to get you closer into His love, to challenge you, to change you, to break you, to build you, to lift you and to save you. All those parables with a pointed premise inevitably coax unquestionable mental ascent from the listener, whether they like it or not! If the hearers are honest and fortunate, it always leads to a confessional agreement and a “Now you go and do likewise” from the Lord. If listeners are already hardened of heart however, then they shall not see and they shall not agree. What a ‘trixie’ person is Jesus Christ the Lord. He is the Way that has a way, that makes a way, that takes away, with words!
Tell me, what parables painted in pain and pleasure are being presented before your watching eyes and listening ears this day? Or is there a roof on your toilet?
Listen:- “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Matthew 13:11-13
Pray:- Speaking, seeking Saviour, may my words be few, that I might hear from You today and then most speedily, both listen and obey. Amen!
