FEAR

The noon day gropers and other wrestlers in prayer

Habakkuk 1:2
O Lord, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You, "Violence!" And You will not save. NKJV

http://www.66pictures.comThis is the first question of the prophet. It is a desperate question, for the visions given to Habakkuk were of the utter destruction of his people, and it would appear that though he was the man to stand ‘in the gap’, there was in fact, no place for him to stand! Regarding his people then, Habakkuk could find no place of repentance. God would not save them from the destruction He was bringing upon them.

You see, the old covenant nation had turned aside from the words and commands of the Lord, to go and serve other gods (Deuteronomy 28:14) and now, all the agreed cursings from the dark side of Mount Ebal, which were now racing like a hungry regiment of vengeful and ever hungry Dinas Vawr’s, would come rushing down upon their heads and strip bare the sweet fatness of all their sinful valleys. Amidst such typhoonic wreckage, the beached hulks from the sea of all their sinfulness would sit sentinel, lying embarrassingly to one side, an old high and dry red rust testimony to the terrible repercussion of a broken covenant. And as the felt blackness of their cloud of condemnation covered over the noon day of their skies, even the sighs’ of strong interceders, all now groping the air in a green coughing fit of mustard spluttered sputum, would bemoan the disconsolate testimony of all the chickens finally coming home to roost.

Question: “O Lord, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You,"Violence!" And You will not save.”

Answer: “And you shall grope at noonday, as a blind man gropes in darkness; you shall not prosper in your ways; you shall be only oppressed and plundered continually, and no one shall save you.” Deuteronomy 28:29

There was no saving of these consistent sinful covenant breaker from the bullying brutality of these Chaldean shepherds, no, there was no saving them from the glittering spears of these un-swallowed, red sea Pharoaohic like pursuers of old. The covenant breaker would not see the Chaldeans laid up like so much dead driftwood along the borders of their covenant keeping and protected nation, but rather, like dry timber, the Chaldeac judgment wood of God, would now burn upon the alters of all of Israel’s false gods, and the spreading flame of God’s indignation against them, would leave them as a potash people, all strewn along the song bird silent, Auschwitz like, ash covered ground. Note now, that the narrow ways of God are in fact the broadways of freedom and life. But the broadways of all the sinful and contrary covenant breakers, are the tube narrowed ways of a fast flowing and funneled destruction leading to the hot and ever bubbling Bunsen burner lake of fire.

I wonder, if when our own worried interceders give testimony to finding no solid ground to stand upon and of groping payers that cannot lay hold of the goodness of God, that it is time to prepare for our own coming typhoon? Maybe now, more than ever, the core message of the Gospel should be unsheathed once more and laid like a slashing sword around the hard hearts of the ungodly?

Listen:- For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10 NKJV

Pray: -  Prepare the mouths of your prophets once more O Lord, and prepare the targets of all their fearless proclamation. Soften hard hearts. Open blind eyes. Send those two ushers of ‘fear and trembling’ to lead people from the narrow ways of destruction to all the wide and open places of that freedom which is found only in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen and let it be so.
