Colossians 1:16-17 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. NKJV

All About Eve

Charterhouse public school boy, Peter Gabriel, founder of the hit band Genesis, later continued with his own solo career having his first top ten hit with ‘Jeux Sans Frontieres’ or ‘Games without Frontiers.’ Gabriel probably based his song lyrics on a popular and ‘lavish’ Pan European game-show of the same name. The British copied this show and called it ‘It’s A Knockout’ putting Stuart ‘Mad as a hatter’ Hall, as its host. Laugh! Everybody laughed so much at this show that they cried! In this respect then, Gabriel’s repetitive lyric of everyone playing ‘Games without frontiers and war without tears’ was on the one hand quite funnily wrong.

Maybe it is just too cold and boring in Iceland, for it was an Icelandic gaming corporation that created a player-driven, persistent-world, massive multiplayer online game called ‘Eve’. Set in a science fiction space setting, players pilot a wide variety of customizable ships through a universe comprising of over, not a few thousand virtual, stargate connected solar systems! Conquest, cloning, acquisition, economic accrual, manufacturing, trading, alliance building, wars and a multitude of other real time experiences, can all be most thoroughly experienced in the ‘New Eden,’ once accessed through the games fictional Wormhole, which by the way, is called Eve. The game is played in real time and is very, very addictive and at the time of my writing, has over ¼ million practicing players! I tell you tonight, that whole worlds have been created in virtual reality where thousands upon thousands of human beings, right now, are hiding themselves and wasting away their time and talents. There a multitude of Christians amongst them as well. Why such popularity? Well I believe Peter Gabriel, that great angelic messenger of the 1980’s, had it right, for there is something attractive about ‘Games without Frontiers and War without tears.’
On the negative side, has there ever been a time in history where a pastor has had to try and pull people from an unreal pit of virtual reality, though the mud of material reality and then up and out the womb-like wormhole of true spirituality? On the plus side, has there ever been a time where we can now truly show people how to virtually live, in a spiritual reality, within a thoroughly material world? No, I do not think there has never been a time like this! Ever!

Surely the real possibility of functioning in the spiritual realm, of receiving a new name, new character, new destiny and participating in power anointings, angelic visitations, hyper travel, intuitive intensity, insight, healing, visions and violence and much, much more, would be a far better draw for the game players of today than the life-consuming, virtual dreams of a few bored and cold Icelanders? You would think so wouldn’t you? But we have a couple of problems to overcome before we can bait this particular hook with attractive lures.

Firstly of course, is that those of us participating in dimensions and worlds unknown to other men, need first to begin to move into those spiritual realms and so much the more. “Higher up and further in,” as a brave mouse once declared on reaching the edge of Aslan’s land, “higher up and further in” indeed. Yet so many of us are still struggling with mouse clicks on the edge of this vast unknown which lies still so silently set before us. Tell me, if we cannot lead the way into living with Christ in the heavenlies, then who can follow?

Secondly of course, despite our ignorance of it, there nevertheless lies before us a world of waiting wonder and also of most dreadful danger. This is no game without frontiers here, this is no war without tears here either! This is the real world, the solid world of set spiritual density, and if you’re not careful, then it will wound you like a knife, burn you like fire, consume you like quicksand, cower you like a whipped dog and haunt you like following shadows cast along the damp and silent, frost-ridden lanes of your life. This is the spiritual realm of which we are the rulers and the takers. Yes, this is the realm of the shining ones, but of the shadow creatures as well.

There is a spiritual reality that far outstrips any player-driven, persistent-world, massive multiplayer online game. One day, as we fall headlong into its limitless and starry depths, it shall be revealed to us in all its fullness. For now though, it is open only to those who have the time and the inclination to gain the skills and the gifts to function in it.
Beware all who enter here! For this is no online game and you are no avatars in that game. It’s all real! Real flesh, real blood, real soul, real spirit. Tell me tonight then, O Gameboy guru, are you wise enough to let go of unreality? Are you brave enough to enter here? I say, are you brave enough to enter here?

Listen: - For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12-13 NKJV

Pray:- While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown, see Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee. Amen.
