Feb | 01 | The Colour Grey

Key Word:- CHOOSE

Title:- The Colour Grey

Joshua 2:4-5 Then the woman took the two men and hid them and so she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.”

On the whole, Christians hate the colour grey. Black and white are our colours of choice and we seem completely ‘at sea’ whenever this fuzzy fog bank of indiscrimination and unclear demarcation comes upon us. Choice seems much harder, doesn’t it, when the lines of right and wrong are not clearly seen. No, we Christians hate the colour grey.

Testimony to this, is seen in our twists and turns about the lie of Rahab the redeemed prostitute of Jericho, and while we get our knickers in a twist and our pants in a pile over such overt lying, and that is what this text clearly indicates, our enemy leads us bewildered and bemused through the fog of confusion, onto rocks of great discomfort. No sir, grey is most absolutely not, our distinct color of choice.

Calvin Miller in his book ‘A Requiem For Love’ talks about the hard choice of the first and fallen man, Adam, of either being with His beloved God, or being with His beloved but very fallen wife. Miller says that “His was the necessity of choosing when every choice was wrong. If he ate not, she’d die alone in bleakness. And if he ate, he’d crush the heart of His creator.”

Maybe today and if not today then certainly tomorrow, you too will find yourself, clothed in grey, having to choose ‘when every choice seems wrong.’ Be sure, this will happen, it is only a matter of time. When you are there, my counsel is three fold:-

First, if at all possible, wait. Wait and see if the fog lifts and the way ahead lies clear before you. Trust in God to make it right. He always does so in the end.

Second, obey. If the command of God is clear in your hurting heart, choose the pain of the day and obey. Trust in God to make it right. He always does so in the end.

Lastly, if you cannot wait, if the command of God is not clear to you, then choose the best of what you have before you, even if it’s a bad lot. Trust in God to make it right. He always does so in the end.

Listen:- …choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; Deuteronomy 30:19

Pray:- Help me O Lord to navigate the greys of my days. Lord Jesus, be my centre, be my life, be my heart, Jesus. Amen.
