The Solomonian Solution

Solomon sinned. Yet unlike his Father David, despite one of the greatest gifts ever bestowed upon a man, he did not repent but rather continued in his all consuming ways. Yes, Solomon ate himself away, especially politically, especially sexually and especially spiritually. His far too many wives were accommodated in their religious practices, indeed, Solomon not only made way for a politically correct and multicultural market place of religion, but plunged himself headlong into their practices. It would appear that this was not a problem with his wives, neither was it a problem with his people, nor was it a problem with the leaders both temporal and spiritual No, only one person had a problem with it, GOD! Yes, the politically correct, multi-cultural, Solomonian solution worked with everyone except God.

It was Ed Hussain, who I heard most recently say, “Multi-culturism in Britain should not be ended but it should be mended.” It was a retired teacher of Religious Education that also said to me in the same week, “Multiculturism means Muslim!” For me, I remember when there were no Muslims in Britain, at the time of my writing in 2008, there are over 2 million and growing. Militant or peaceful, Islam is a growing force to be reckoned with. Ed was correct, Multiculturalism most surely does needs mending.

It is claimed that only a comparative few Muslims in Britain are interested in spreading Islam by force and establishing their world view, practices and law by that same force. Maybe so, but I truly wonder if the end game never the less, is not in fact peaceful multi-culturism but rather peaceful Islamisation.

Now allow me tonight to come at this challenge from a completely opposite view point, after all, as a Christian, I would love to see the re-Christianisation of everything British and the Christianisation of everything global.

Globally of course, we are commanded to take the good news of Jesus, His death, burial and resurrection, to every tribe and tongue. Indeed and praise God, neither God nor Christianity is essentially English. We are not to spread our national identity but His gospel! Now although this gospel message is always taken in love and in sacrifice of self to the betterment of others, it does change cultures! Imagine if you will, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a whole, en masse, becoming lovers of Jesus, becoming born again in the power of the Holy Spirit! Would that Kingdom change in terms of its politics, in terms of its social structure, in terms of its education, in terms of its foreign policy, its fiscal policy, etc, etc, etc? Well of course it would and there are many Saudis that would not be too happy about it. With this imaginary situation, I would like to believe that Christ would redeem the culture and enhance it and yes He would but let’s face it, some of it would be enhanced into oblivion. Of course it would, light always banishes darkness. The Gospel changes people, who in turn change communities, who then change nations. Some people do not want that change. Nevertheless, the commission for Christians to take this good news stands certain, sure and irrevocable. The spread of Christianity is never by violent means but rather must be Holy Spirit empowered, Holy Spirit led and Holy Spirit sustained. Yet still, the Gospel, when cast upon the ground to face the throne of Pharaoh, always bears the same marks of the rod of Moses in that it will inevitably swallow up the various false rods cast against it. The Gospel proclaimed is always peaceful and intentionally so, but always remember that the claims of Jesus are exclusively inclusive, yes, they are if you will, all swallowing. In this way, to darkness and all things contrary to light, it is a dawning change!

On the home front, believing in the exclusively inclusive nature of the Gospel, believing that you have previously been blessed by God in yourself, family, community and nation with God’s previous presence and practices, how do present Christians, some of every tribe nation and tongue that now call this country home, react to this present ineffective Solomon solution?

I would suggest there are five ways to respond. That is, in prayer, in proclamation, in power, in practice and in politics.

We need to pray to God for forgiveness! For the implementation of such a terrible Solomonian solution, has in fact solved nothing but rather has brought the setting of God’s sun of favour upon us. Like Israel of Old, adversaries of every kind are being raised up against us and like Israel of old our kingdoms are being rent asunder. We need to pray for God to stay His hand of judgement and to send revival upon us and the blessing of His goodness upon our fellow citizens, upon the people of every nation tribe and tongue who now reside within these broken gates.

We need to proclaim the Gospel. Fearlessly, fervently, faithfully, we need to proclaim the Gospel.

We need to walk in power. The power of the Holy Spirit in gifting, in goodness and in generosity. We need to walk in power.

We need to practice what we preach and in all our practices, we need to preach.

We need to be involved in politics. Peacefully, we need to engage the powers that be, in debate, in declaration and in doing good.

God is not American, but that younger nation could lead the world into God. God is not an Englishman, but this England was once full of God. The Solomonian solution is bearing its fruit and that right quickly. A crash and a clash is coming, tell me, is your heart and mouth at the ready?

Pray:- O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments, we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day .
