Has your city ‘souled’ out? Then get out!

Gen 4:17-18
And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son — Enoch.

Cain was a marked man and identified and cursed as a murderer to wander the earth, where each step of the souls of his feet both felt and heard the very ground upon which he walked rejecting him! Cain, you see, is cursed to never again be able to successfully cultivate the soil which, concerning the spilt blood of his innocent brother Able, so consta
ntly cried out against him. Thus forced from the presence of the Lord he was found trying to seek a place of refuge and peace in the land of the rising son, East of Eden

This is the first mention of City in the Bible and it is built by a wandering murderer, as a place a refuge for his son and family. Indeed, cities are places which resist the attacker and afford protection to the inhabitant with watchmen and walls, with gates and with government.

Once people gather together in a city, the very place itself manifest a common persona. Indeed, cities, as common societies, seem to possess a corporate identity, a living ‘soul’, if you will. Thus a city can cry and be stirred; a city can be place of renown; it can be happy and joyful, be settled and prosperous; be arrogant and proud; be oppressive and bloody; be blessed or even be bound for destruction. Yes indeed, we must remember that though cities might be founded by men, even murderers, they continue on and prosper, or, are completely destroyed depending upon their relationship to God.

Sodom, Sidon, Tyre, Nineveh, Jerusalem, Babylon, Berlin, London, Paris, New York……and ten thousands more besides, all possess an ever changing expression depending on the parts that make up their 'soulish' body. Watch it now and observe what kind of soul you are attaching yourself to. Oh and by the way, I tell you, if ever your wrist feels grabbed by an angel, then I suggest you get out of that city…… PDQ!

Listen:- Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1

Pray: -  Father, have mercy upon our city. Strengthen our leaders in right living and the application of right laws. Remove from us the wicked and let peace reign. Establish us and protect us and should Your great patience run out, then lead us out by Your Mighty right hand of deliverance. Amen and amen
