Dream Word – WORSHIP

John 3:5-8 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” NKJV

Caught by God’s Great Cat

In the wake of the dropping of the second atomic bomb on Japan, at a Manhattan dinner given by the Nobel Prize committee, it was Walter Isaacson in his autobiography on Einstein, who noted that the great, hairy man himself, spoke at that same dinner saying, “Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite had created the award to atone for having invented the most powerful explosives ever known up to his time. Today the physicists who participated on forging the most formidable and dangerous weapons of all times are harassed by equal feelings of responsibility, not to say guilt.”

Driven by fear, guilt and responsibility, it was in May 1946 that Einstein would take up the role of chairman and founder of the ‘The Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists.’ Wikipedia says that the aims of this committee were to ‘warn the public of the dangers associated with the development of nuclear weapons, promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and ultimately work towards world peace, which was seen as the only way that nuclear weapons would not be used again.’ Einstein in fact established the Committee in the wake of the ‘Szilárd petition’ of 1945, which was presented to the United States President, Mr. Harry S. Truman. This petition was opposing the use of the atomic bomb on moral grounds and was signed by sixty eight scientists who had worked on the Manhattan Project, for you see, a majority of those scientists apparently did not entirely know just what they were creating at the time! Einstein, speaking as Chairman of this committee is quoted again by Isaacson as saying, “Our generation has brought into the world the most revolutionary force since prehistoric man’s discovery of fire. This basic power of the universe cannot be fitted into the outmoded concept of narrow nationalism.”

Now, whatever you think of Einstein’s stance and actions, of his politics and compulsions, of his courage or naivety is irrelevant for my point tonight. Our world is a nuclear world and the bomb cannot be un-invented! However it is the principle stated by Einstein of ‘not being able to fit the most powerful force in the universe into a narrow concept’ that I want you to consider this evening.

The most powerful force ever to have been released into the mess of humanity was the Holy Spirit Himself on the day of Pentecost. Oh yes it was! The narrow concept He has ever since been tried to be forced into, is that of denominationalism. We believers in the Word of God, we holders and interpreters of this truth once delivered to the saints, have never the less fragmented ourselves into (at the very least) a vast multitude of Protestant denominations, all of which have a slightly different flavour, bent and interpretation, on the revelation of God to us. Each of these many denominations, even each of these major protestant ecclesiastical traditions, have tried to take the Holy Spirit and like some narrow nation state, have attempted to dress Him in their flag, to brand Him with their name, to dress Him up in their uniform and drop Him on their enemies in contemptible judgment and haughty exclusiveness.

You cannot capture the wind in a jar and release it where you will. For the wind is wild, beyond taming and vastly unpredictable. All you can do with the wind when it blows is either welcome it, harness it, or shelter from it until it passes. You cannot put a leash around the neck of the wind dear friends and then lead it where you will! For the wind is wild, and beyond taming and vastly unpredictable. So is God the Holy Spirit.

God the Holy Spirit, this Divine Wind if you will, is not on a suicide mission, wildly diving at the decks of our lives to simply crash burn and dissipate, no mate, this Holy God, the most magnificent Holy Spirit is on a life giving mission!

Because we are clever enough to capture the winds that blow around our planet for our own power, purpose and benefit, somehow in a very ignorant and arrogant way, we also assume that we can capture the Divine Wind of God for our own power, purpose and benefit. What floundering fools we are! For the pleasure and mission of God the Holy Spirit is not to be taught, bought, bound or bent to our denominational designs, but in His wildness, to both corner and capture us and then carry us in His smiling teeth, to the waiting feet of Jesus.

This cat-like deliverance of us to the Master are the most Holiest of moments in the universe. I tell you that all of heaven stands still when our mouse-like forms are laid before His waiting feet. God the Holy Spirit is the Great Cat on the prowl and not any man’s dog on a leash.

He Fumbles at your soul
As players at the keys
Before they drop full music on
He stuns you by degrees
Prepares your brittle nature
For the ethereal blow
By fainter hammers further heard,
Then nearer, then so slow
Your breath has time to straighten
Your brain to bubble cool
Deals one imperial thunderbolt
That scalps your naked soul

When winds take forests in their paws
The universe is still.

Divine Possession, by Emily Dickenson 1830-1886

Listen:- After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. Rev 7:1-2 NKJV

Pray :- Father put Your Great Cat out tonight! Come O Holy Wind of God and in Your mercy and according to Your own goodness, by the shed blood of Christ my Saviour, come blow through the alleys of my sleeping mind. Come prowl my dark corners and then Great Cat of Christ, come corner me, come tire me out and come stare me into quaking stillness. O let the universe be still this night! Let the sun and stars, the moon and the mountains that tickle the hanging under-belly of the blue lit sky, all be quiet this night. O Holy Spirit, will You please take all my dark forests in Your powerful and pleasant paws, will You nip me, bite me, gently shake me, to a reverential sleep and then dangling from Your delightful and ever smiling jaws, in my dreams, will You carry me off to Jesus and lay me prostrate at His waiting, loving feet that I might be truly blessed once more. Amen.
