Title:- That Red Dirt Road
Luke 24:13-16 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus , which was seven miles from Jerusalem. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him
‘Brooks and Dunn,’ famous country music songwriters and singers, at one point on their own journey, revitalized a flagging career with the release of an Album called “Red Dirt Road.”
The title song was an emotive reflection of life down the back roads of rural America, now long since passing and very soon no doubt, to be long since passed forever. Forgive me, but I just love country music and this album's title song in particular! While living in America, as a pilgrim in a foreign land, I found many songs with the themes of Jesus and journey, resonating deeply within my own soul.
Journeying together in community is so important isn’t it? Sharing together, all of our highs as well as our lows, should be more than just a weekly statement at a small group meeting for so many things happen on this blood red, dirt red road we walk on, where each step seems to take us a days march nearer home. The journey is so challenging for the Christian, and it is, (don’t believe all the pulpit sales hype and evangelistic lies) that we need to be together helping one another, even on a daily basis. For this road is indeed a place where we wreck our toys, discover our passions, make friends, make mistakes, get enthused, pick up hope, carry despair, get tired, get worn out and inevitably get older, though unfortunately not always wiser! Even so, this red dirt road should primarily be the place where we meet Jesus. In every wreck, in every mistake, in every tear, in every morsel of food, every laugh, twinkle, twist or turn, we should find Him there and most of all, we should find Him there, together!
When y’all bump into Jesus on your journey this year, will you please be sure to tell me what He has said to you? Will you please be sure to inform me what He has done for you; how He challenged you, changed you and most especially, how He loved you? Oh tell me how He loved on you please, but friends most of all, when you find Him on your road, will you please take me to Him?
Listen: -Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them. Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. Luke 24:28-31
Pray: -Lord Jesus, lead me on, lead me up and lead me home. Amen.
