Jan | 20 | Pugnacious Preaching!

Key Word:- FIGHT

Title:- Pugnacious Preaching!

Acts 2: 13 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said,

For someone who loves the Old Testament, it is very encouraging for me to find the first Christian Sermon of the New, placed firmly on and rooted most deeply in, the prophetic utterances of those two great Old Testament prophets, Joel and David. For centuries, as was the Jewish tradition, previous people had SAT to read these very same words of God. Now however, Peter STOOD! He STOOD to proclaim the Gospel! The Good news is glorious news, but it has never been nice news! It has always been confrontational to the proud spirit of man; it has always been therefore of necessity, a standing proclamation!

The proclamation of the good news confronts people head on you see; it ‘calls them out’ in both repentance of their grossly selfish past and then to commitment to a new and gloriously very different, sacrificial future. The Gospel is a challenge to change, the Gospel is a challenge to believe, to be born again, yes, the Gospel is a sent and commanded proclamation, it is a roar from the Great Lion Himself, not a little meow from a pussycat! Of course then, it is by its very nature, courageously confrontational.

So then, Peter STOOD. He STOOD to do battle, he STOOD to reap, he STOOD to destroy and he STOOD to lay out the enemy. Satan was going down here friends! Watch, how with a thundering crash, the little stone, that will eventually roll into a great mountain and overcome all earthly kingdoms, was now laid in Peter’s verbal sling and flung with such apostolic force, that it again split the skull of boastful pride. It brought him down, and with such a crashing thunder, that his snot and spittle were spattered all over the sand, and his broken teeth were embedded in the dirty ground, as his giant sword now lay prostrate on the earth, silent, like his limp and conquered body, waiting for some young and red faced David, to claim the weapon for his own, put his foot on the neck of this avowed, but now downed and defeated enemy and cut his bloody head right off! This is Gospel preaching and I am sorry to say, that it is a long time since we have seen or heard its like in our lands.

Today, we need a restoration of such apostolic and prophetic preaching. Preaching that calls for REVOLUTION because of hearing the Word of God. Preaching that throws challenging words of burning glory onto the strong beleaguered battlements of men’s hearts, words that rip strongholds down on their impact and words that fell the greatest of all our giants and I tell you friends, spiritually speaking, all that will lay before the feet of such apostolic preaching, are piles of rubble and bloodied heads. Like I said, it's been a very long time since we have seen or heard anything like that.

Let us preachers be done with the flower arranging classes of those nice little inoffensive motivational dainties, surrounded by frightened and miniscule pleading platitudes that so many get presented with, for twenty minutes or so ( if you are fortunate) on a hungry Sunday morning.

Let us hearers of the Word also be done with those smiling and oh slippy, self-help hipsters. Those speakers that reveal their fat and untrained belly, with the many motivational sermonette’s that dance from those lips of well-groomed, blinged-up, flashy-eyed little mouthed men. Let us all be done, with such mealy mouthed and squirrel squeaking flatulence!
Someone has said that “Sermonettes only ever produced Christianettes” and I believe it, because I’ve seen it and I tell you what, I am done with such plastic productivity! How about you?

Brethren, pray today for apostolic anointing on the brave heads of all the teachers, all the prophets and all the leaders of the church militant here on earth today.

Listen: - Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore…. Eph 6:13-14 .

Pray: - Lord Jesus, help me realize Your power in me today. Lord. Please put some metal, some red hot iron into the preachers of our day, and grant to listening ears, courageous hearts and open mouths, that they might express their unmet hunger, in Jesus name I pray, amen!
