Jan | 12 | Where’s the Beef?

Key Word:- CONSIDER

Title:- Where’s the Beef?

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;

Playing a crusty old lady who slapped the counters of neighborhood hamburger joints and loudly asked the probing question “Where's the Beef?” Clara Peller, the then grey-haired, four-foot eleven-inch octogenarian, became spokeswoman for the Wendy's hamburgers chain and was seen nationwide in America from 1984-85 in a series of popular commercials. When Clara later appeared in a ‘Prego Plus' spaghetti sauce commercial saying, “I found it!” ‘Wendy's’ fired her, saying “Clara can find the beef only in one place, and that is Wendy's.”People want the beef and don’t they want the real 100% stuff that moo’s when you bite it? I’m talking about real meat here baby! That’s what folks are after and why not?

Elisha, famed prophet of old, asked for a hard thing and that was a double portion of the same Spirit that rested on Elijah and when Elijah, his mentor and friend, was taken up into heaven and he then saw him no more (does that sound familiar by the way?) Elisha then bent down and picked up the great prophet's fallen mantle, turned towards the River Jordan and struck its waters in faithful expectation, crying out in a loud voice, “Where is the God of Elijah?” The waters parted before him and he then crossed over on dry land. There He was! Dry and on the other side, God was indeed wih him. How wonderful!

Friends, more than the mantle of Jesus has fallen on us. Even God the Holy Spirit Himself, has fallen on the church to indwell it forever! Though truth is, looking around at our pre-packaged and frozen offerings you might not think it. Yes sir, looking around at the ‘please come and kick sand in my face’ hound dog look of shallow and spiritually emaciated Christians in this Laodicean age you just might not think it.

So let me ask you today, how fed up are you of having sand kicked in your face? How desperate are you for some muscle, how desperate are you for some meaty Christianity? How expectant are you? How full of faith are you? If you are brave enough dear friends then maybe it’s time to ask the question of your church and of yourself, “Where’s the beef?” Go on, examine yourselves today and say this, “Where is the God of Elijah?” In the church let’s look and say, “Where is the God of Elijah?” In our families let’s look and say, “Where is the God of Elijah?” Come on, let’s rise up, and say to ourselves, to one another, to our knock-kneed, walk safe, career-minded leaders and shout “enough of this weak, insipid, pathetic and powerless substitute for Biblical Christianity!” Shout it loud friends, shout it loud and shout it long, Where’s the beef? Where is the God of Elijah?” If we did this, then who knows, maybe these last generations might just begin to experience the truth of the fact that God is indeed still with us. Go on, ask that 'Clarelisha' type question today…. Go on, I dare you!

Listen: -For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, 1 Thess 1:5a

Pray: - Show me why I am so weak dear God and then make me strong my God today, I pray this, in Jesus MIGHTY name, amen!
